GEMS Outdoors is designed to be flexible and approachable. You don’t have to change everything about your club—you can use it in a way that fits your girls, your leaders, and your setting.
Whether you meet weekly, monthly, or somewhere in between, GEMS Outdoors helps you create meaningful, Scripture-centered experiences where girls can grow in their relationship with God.
Three Ways to Use GEMS Outdoors
Every club is a little different—and that’s okay. Here are three simple ways clubs are using GEMS Outdoors:
As your primary curriculum
Build your club gatherings around the GEMS Outdoors sessions for the full season.
Alongside your current GEMS curriculum
Alternate weeks or use GEMS Outdoors during a specific season of the year.
For special events or seasons
Use sessions for outdoor nights, retreats, or a summer program.
Start where it feels manageable—you can always grow from there.
You don’t have to choose the “perfect” approach—just start with what fits your club right now.
What a GEMS Outdoors Gathering Looks Like
Each session follows a simple, familiar sequence:
- Welcome and opening (including the GEMS Aim)
- Scripture and conversation
- Outdoor activity or experience
- Reflection and response
- Closing prayer
This rhythm helps girls not only learn about God—but recognize His care and presence in everyday moments.
What You’ll Need
Getting started is simple. You’ll need:
- Access to GEMS Outdoors Sessions
- A leader (or leadership team)
- A group of girls
- Basic supplies (varies by activity)
Optional, but helpful:
- A printed Handbook for leaders
- Printed journal pages or the GEMS Outdoors Journal for girls
You don’t need a lot of equipment—just a willingness to show up and engage with your girls. Most clubs already have what they need to get started.
What If We Don’t Have Easy Outdoor Access?
You don’t need a perfect outdoor space to use GEMS Outdoors well.
Many clubs adapt activities for:
- Church property
- Parking lots or green spaces
- Short outdoor time paired with indoor discussion
GEMS Outdoors is designed to meet you where you are—not where you wish you could be.
You Don’t Have to Be an Expert
You don’t need outdoor experience or special training to lead GEMS Outdoors.
Each session is designed to guide you step-by-step, so you can focus on what matters most—building relationships and helping girls grow in their faith.
You don’t need to have all the answers. Just show up, be present, and walk alongside your girls as they discover who God is and who they are in Him.
How Much Prep Is Required?
Each session is designed to be simple and leader-friendly.
You can review the session ahead of time, gather a few basic supplies, and be ready to lead. There’s no need for extensive planning—just enough preparation to feel confident as you guide your girls.
