SATURDAY WORKSHOPS

You will participate in three workshops on Saturday, each workshop is one hour in length. Please select your top, two choices from each session time-frame. Most workshops are only offered once and some workshops are limited in size by the presenter. If you select a workshop that has been filled, your registration will direct you to select an alternative workshop.

Saturday, Session 1 – 10:30am – 11:30am

200 | NEW Awareness Level Counselors
Presented by Heather Putnam
Your girls in grades 1-3 are eager to be in GEMS! As a new counselor, this workshop will guide you through the Awareness Level curriculum choices and badge options, talk about how to incorporate Sparkle Magazine in club, and provide fun and interactive ideas for you. Seasoned Awareness Level counselors are also welcome to join. Offered during session 1.

201 | NEW Discovery Level Counselors
Presented by Leneé Struiksma
This workshop is for women teaching grades 4-6. Join us as we walk through a typical club night, show you how to use SHINE brightly Magazine and the Discovery Place Badge Book, explain ways to incorporate meaningful crafts, discuss tips for developing relationships, and much more! Seasoned Discovery Level counselors are also welcome to join. Offered during session 1.

202 | NEW Advanced Level Counselors
Seventh and eighth grade girls face intense peer pressure and complex relationship issues. As a counselor, you have the unique privilege of walking beside them as they navigate these challenges! Join us as we look at all the curriculum options and offer advice for relationship-building opportunities as you mentor these Advanced Level girls. Seasoned Advanced Level counselors are also welcome to join. Offered during session 1.

203 | What Every NEW Club Coordinator Should Know
Presented by Kim Hofstra
This session is crucial for all first-time Club Coordinators. We’ll walk you through everything you need to know to lead your club, encourage you as you enfold your counselors, and discuss all the essential checklists, calendars, and tools you need to be successful. This session will extend into a private lunch with share time and lots of Q&A so you leave fully prepared for a new year! Offered during session 1.

204 | Is God Really Enough? (For CITs only)
Presented by Katie Gregoire
Teenagers and young adults often struggle to figure out their identity: Who am I? Am I lovable? Am I good enough? Katie knows the struggle, but she also knows we can’t find our identity in anything other than Christ. She helps young people see that chasing after something else may look flashy, but it’s false. Based on her research, interviews with dozens of contemporaries, and her own experience, Rebecca will share key factors in raising teens who are responsible, independent adults. She will cover seven principles her parents used that helped her stay in love with Jesus and start adulthood without a rebellious stage. Offered during session 1.

You will find the theme, Be a Blessing, taught in Bible lessons and the Annual Theme badge. But if you are intentional, you can weave it into every part of club. This interactive workshop includes easy and engaging games, icebreakers, object lessons, and more. You will receive great encouragement and fun and meaningful ways to inspire girls to bless God and others. Offered during sessions 2 and 3.

302 | The Joy of Sharing Jesus: Leading a Child to Christ

You are a part of GEMS Girls’ Clubs because you want girls everywhere to meet Jesus. But have you ever wanted to share Jesus in your club, and found yourself tongue-tied? Join Cindy as she equips you with simple, effective communication tools that will help you discuss salvation with your GEMS girls. As a leader, you may not feel equipped to manage a classroom. Don’t lose heart, you can do it! This workshop will focus on engaging girls, keeping their focus, and creating a classroom of respect for one another. We’ll learn how to set expectations, maintain authority, and manage the many personalities of the girls we love. Offered during session 2.

305 | Every Child Needs a Smart Advocate
Presented by Julie Ball
Every child is smart and created with unique God-given intelligence and abilities. These smarts explain how they explore and develop their purpose and passion in life. Join us as we learn from child expert Dr. Kathy Koch’s book “8 Great Smarts”. We will examine how you can better understand your GEMS specific smarts, strengths, and weaknesses and be equipped to engage and utilize their gifts. Offered during session 2.

306 | Finding the Courage to Lead (for CITs only)
Presented by Lesli VanMilligen
We are all called to lead in some capacity. God created and gifted us to lead in distinctive ways. Join us as we each begin to identify our unique leadership styles and what it means to become the confident leader who God uses to bless those around us. We will engage in discussion through a variety of fun and insightful activities. For CITs only. Offered during session 2.

307 | Oh the Games We Play!

If you’re looking for large group or small group activities to engage girls and build relationships, please join us! Be ready to play interactive team building games with biblical teachings. GEMS is a global ministry, and in the midst a selfie culture, you can help guide a generation of girls to see beyond themselves to the needs of the world around them. Learn how you can challenge your club to care about the girl next door, around the corner, and on the other side of the world. Your GEMS can change the world with your global-minded encouragement! Offered during sessions 2 and 3.

309 | Brave Women—Bold Moves

Sometimes, your ability to lead well in a changing world depends on your comfort with being a risk-taker. Come learn more about leadership from the lessons of brave women of faith like Deborah and Rahab—women who stepped outside of their comfort zone and made bold moves that had impact on generations of women to follow. Offered during sessions 2 and 3.

310 | Bible Journaling 101
Presented by Ometa Pope
Creativity and studying scripture go hand-in-hand in this Bible journaling class. By creating meaningful art while learning the Word of God, you will gain a fresh approach to bible reading and reflection. Participants will learn how to use the GOD method for studying Scripture (G-Grow, O-Observe, D-Draw). You will practice using a variety of tools. No drawing skills are necessary. Space is limited. Cost: $15 USD/$20 CAD will be charged during the registration process. Offered during session 2.

Come get creative craft ideas that compliment the theme, Be a Blessing. Step-by-step instructions will be included! You will have fun making several crafts from the Theme Resource Book as you see practical ways to weave the them throughout the season. Space is limited. 400 | Rising from the Pit

Climbing out of the pit of depression and anxiety is impossible to do alone. And yet, if you are the loved one of someone who struggles from mental illness, it’s difficult to know how to help. How can we be a blessing to others when we continue to wear the ill-fitting lies of our past? Come learn how to recognize and remove the lies you wear while refashioning yourself in truth. When you find peace and joy in the truth of who you are, you can effectively help girls understand these vital truths, too. 402 | The Psalm 1 GEMS Group

The Psalms begin with a powerful declaration of the differences between spiritual formation and spiritual deformation. And it’s illustrated by the radical difference between a tree and chaff. Your girls are often enthusiastic and active in their worship. Come learn how to enhance your worship time and discover new movements and ideas for the songs you love to sing. Offered during session 3.

404 | 4 Simple Steps to Raising All the Money Your GEMS Club Needs
Presented by Cindy Bultema
Small budget, low numbers, limited volunteers, what is your GEMS club to do? Come join Cindy as she shares how to plan, implement, and develop a successful fundraiser for your club. Learn more about the new GEMS Preferred Fundraising Vendors, and leave with fresh enthusiasm to tackle even the largest fundraising efforts. 406 | Hurting Girl Series: Dealing with Emotions
Presented by Dr. Jane Sinden
We all experience painful, uncomfortable or stressful emotions like anxiety, worry, and/or sadness. Unfortunately many girls do not understand these emotions and turn to unhealthy ways of coping.  Secular psychology often perpetuates the problem by focusing on building “self” esteem, instead of helping girls find their esteem in Christ (Christ esteem).  This workshop will outline how we can help young girls understand and grow in Christ through their emotional experiences. Offered during session 3.

407 | Standing Firm In Your Teen Years (For CITs only)
Presented by Natasha Chandler
High school, university, and other new experiences are on the horizon: How will you stand firm in your faith? Learn how to hold on to your identity as God’s deeply loved daughter in the midst of the challenges of young adulthood. We’ll create a safe space to learn new ways of thinking about faith, and emerge with tools and strategies that really make a difference in this stage of life. For CITs only. Offered during session 3.

600 | Free Coaching Session
Do you have questions or concerns? Do you need someone to take an outside look at your club or leadership? Do you desire prayers for your club? GEMS Leadership is committed to listening, helping, and praying for you. Free one-on-one coaching is available throughout the weekend and will send you home with lots of encouragement, prayers, and a plan of action! Sessions will be individually scheduled throughout the weekend and details for your private meeting will be sent to you by June 15.
