Know your needles
Needles are everywhere! We use them to knit and sew. Some needles are big, like the tower in Seattle called the Space Needle. Others are small, like the sharp leaves on a pine tree!
Needles have been around for hundreds of years. Jesus even told a parable, or a type of story, about them! Parables are stories that have deeper meanings hidden in them. Jesus told parables to help people know more about God.
In this story, a rich man comes up to Jesus and asks what he has to do to live forever with God. Jesus replies that he must obey God’s laws. The man says he has obeyed those laws all his life. Then Jesus tells him, “Go and sell everything you have and give it to the poor.” Jesus says that after he does that, the man would be free to follow Jesus. But the rich man goes away sad. He does not want to give everything away. Jesus turns to his friends and says, “It is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”*
